They mess up your skates! Can you elaborate? They're the closest sharpening place to me and I have not had problems the 2 times I've gone there. Is there a better place in South Minneapolis that you would recommend? -Marc Not to discount Blitzenagain's experience, but I just went to Bill St Mane and was very satisfied with my skates. Previously I had always gone to Fred at Westwood. I actually asked the guy in there (red hair, looked mid-late 20s) how many people sharpen skates and whether it was the same person every time, and he said that there were three people working there: him, an older guy, and a younger guy. He didn't seem to mind if I requested to have a particular person there sharpen my skates, as he understood what it was like to get a bad sharpen. I guess the best test will be what my skates feel like when I get them sharpened there for the second time...

 Re: Skate Sharpening Locations
STRAUSS! Great price ($4, or buy 10 sharpenings for $32), great people up front, and a nice look around the store too.
I've have mine sharpened about every 5 "game hours".
The guy at Roseville does a decent job, but cuts deep, so the edge will be noticeable. Also had them sharpened at the Superrink (Blaine), and they were so-sharp that I couldn't even pivot (seriously). It took about 2 hours for them to become "just good sharp".

I bet one difference is I am a goalie...maybe they do regular skates well...and a second difference is I ALWAYS get the old guy!

 Re: Skate Sharpening Locations
Only place I know of even remotely close to uptown that sharpens skates is Parade. There's probably a ton more. I usually opt to take the trip out to Strauss in Maplewood.

 Re: Skate Sharpening Locations
General Sports off from 50th and France is relatively close to Uptown. Probably a 10 minute jaunt through the lakes. Just don't take your skates there on a Saturday...you could be waiting an hour or more!
Too bad that the Play It Again Sports that was on Hennepin and 35th closed a long time ago.

Green Dog Sports on 54th and Nicollet do a good job too. I've also had good experiences with the old guy at the Play it Again at Hopkins Crossroads. As a goalie, it can be hard to find someone who will listen to how you want them sharpened. They all think that they should be ground flat....

Thanks, I ended up going to Flanders. We'll see how it turns out tonight when I get on the ice! Oh, and it was $5. You were WAY off

 Re: Skate Sharpening Locations
Any places within walking distance of East Bank on the U of M campus? I heard rumors Mariucci does it, any good?
