I dunno, it tends to vary based on who's playing, and what sort of net it is. Springy nets tend to behave more like glass so people tend to treat them more like glass.
In general, I tend to let up until the puck returns to play and whomever is closest to it gains control; then game on.
I play goalie, like I drive. I assume everyone is going to do EVERYTHING wrong. Hence I don't assume a play is dead, or a player is offsides, or anything else. I just make sure the play has stopped. In pick-up hockey, you never know what you're gonna get. Even if you came up with a concensus on the forum, Joe Newguy is gonna play a puck off that net.
